ABOUT ARTIST GRANTS
Living Structures invites emerging Cambodian artists, architects, and creative designers to submit proposals for artist grants supporting the creation of new works inspired by the legacy of Vann Molyvann and Cambodia’s New Khmer Architecture. Coined in the 1950s and the 1960s, New Khmer Architecture refers to a modernist movement in architecture and urbanism that emerged in Cambodia following French colonial rule, often regarded as the country’s golden age.
Submissions are open to individuals and collaborative teams interested in the intersection of art, architecture, and the city, and in exploring how this intersection can shape new perspectives on Cambodia’s future urban identity.
Five selected grantees will each receive USD 1,200 to develop original works that reflect on the works of Vann Molyvann and the New Khmer Architecture movement, of which he was a pioneering figure. Proposals should engage with the social, cultural, political, and economic impacts of his architectural contributions and/or the broader movement, that are activating and contributing to Cambodia’s urban life today.
Selected grantees will work closely with the Living Structures curator to produce a minimum of three original works. These may include drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, mixed media, printmaking, or photography. The works will be presented in a group exhibition at Vann Molyvann’s House in Phnom Penh in August 2026.
Application submission is closed.
