Living Structures
Living Structures is an art and architecture event program to celebrate the 100th birthday of architect Vann Molyvann (1926-2017). This program brings together art, architecture, and community to honor his legacy while also recognizing Cambodia’s creative resilience and rich modern heritage. Set within the iconic Vann Molyvann House, it will serve as a vibrant platform for artists, architects, designers, students, and the wider public to engage with Cambodian modern architecture and contemporary art. The program will address key themes such as climate-responsive design, heritage resilience, and the cultural and social dimensions of the built environment. The program includes four core events:
1. Architecture Library: The library focuses on modern and contemporary architecture, urbanism, and design, serving as a learning place for Cambodian architects and architecture students.
2. Contemporary Art Grants + Exhibition: Marking the centenary of Vann Molyvann, this exhibition explores themes of climate-responsive design and cultural and social meaning within his iconic architectural works and New Khmer Architecture.
3. Architecture Competition + Exhibition: For architecture students and early-career professionals, the competition focused on sustainable design and future-forward thinking for Cambodia’s built environment.
4. Cambodian Modern Architecture Exhibition: Dedicated to the Cambodian modern architecture movement, this exhibition honors its significant contributions to nation-building from the 1950s to 1960s, with Vann Molyvann as a leading figure.
